Frans Kusse’s “Children’s Types” expands on Borland’s initial booklet on the constitutional treatment of children, providing cases, insights and modern remedies.

Frans Kusse’s ‘Children’s Types’ is a welcome modern addition to the sparsity of existing literature on the Homeopathic treatment of children.
One of the most significant appeals of this book is the author’s choice to relate specific and very real case studies rather than dispassionately describing remedy types – particularly in the realm of mental/emotional traits.

Kusse gives us a fresh insight into the mind aspects of remedy pictures, not only as a result of his extensive clinical experience, but also due to his empathetic and compassionate understanding of the emotional pain and motivations behind many of the behaviours of children.

Alongside prescribing a good remedy, Kusse includes, in many instances, suggestions on how children in these remedy states can be supported by parents, teachers, psychologists, and so on to lessen the internal conflicts children may be locked into and to enable them to reach their full potential.

Kusse’s compassion and understanding is also apparent in his equal focus on both the difficult and the more positive aspects of a remedy type.
An example of this are his comments on the detrimental effects society’s demand for quick intellectually based responses has on Baryta Carbonica children:“As soon as they have more time, they often turn out to be cleverer than suspected.”
The 56 remedy types presented in this book include not only the more common remedies for children but also several frequently indicated but less often prescribed remedies, such as Beryllium, Hydrogen, Helium, and Saccharum Officinale.
Frans Kusse’s warmth and obvious commitment to his child patients is apparent throughout his book, with the result that the reader comes away with a deeper understanding of children’s types and an increased ability to recognise remedy states in young patients.
